Digital cameras are becoming more and more accessible and as a result, our hard drives are being filled with countless pictures. Sorting and managing so many photos can be difficult, unless you look for a specialized application. In this case, you can use SortPix to organize large amounts of photos. The software comes with batch renaming capabilities, various sorting options and it can also locate duplicate images in your collection.

SortPix is free to try with some limitations. It works on various Windows platforms, from the old and dusty Win 98 to the recently released Win 8. Installing the software takes less than a minute and there is no need to install any prerequisite tools. With 27 MB of free disk space, a 1.2 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM, you can run this program without any problems.

The software's appearance may remind you of Total Commander or other similar file managers. It consists of two panels, on which you can explore your local folders. Unlike other dual-panel file managers, SortPix doesn't burden you with too many options and its panels serve specific purposes. The panel located on the left half of the interface allows you to browse through source data, which can be moved to a destination folder, on the right half.

Files can be moved by simply clicking and dragging them from the source panel to the target panel. Of course, files can be moved in the opposite direction as well, but the panels display different options, which are intended specifically for source and target items. While exploring source files, on the left side, you can click a few options to select or unselect all items, sort them, change the view mode and enable or disable sounds.

The target panel, located on the right half of the interface, displays more options, which make it quite easy to manage images or other files. Besides sorting files and changing the view mode, you can also batch rename images, search for specific items, locate and remove duplicates, display disk usage information and more. An interesting and useful feature is the possibility of placing images in a specific order. All you have to do is click and drag your pictures, on a separate window, to place them in a certain order. When you are done, the software will automatically rename and number them, to keep them in that order.

Pros

SortPix can sort your images, arrange them in a specific order, batch rename them and more. Its controls are well organized and easy to understand.

Cons

While using the trial version, the software will ask you to type a code on a small window every few minutes. With SortPix, you can easily sort, organize and manage any number of pictures, regardless of their format.
